TL;DR — the big picture on why I'm Running
I’m running because I believe Utah deserves a future built on stewardship, dignity, and long-term thinking, not culture wars or short-term political wins. My politics are future-oriented, independent, and progressive—grounded in the idea that our greatest strength comes from infinite diversity in infinite combinations, and that a healthy society makes room for difference rather than fearing it.
I believe government should solve real problems: affordable housing, clean air and water, accessible healthcare, good schools, fair wages, and systems that work for real people. I support fully funding public education and libraries, protecting intellectual freedom, and treating literacy and learning as the foundation of democracy. I see housing as essential infrastructure, not a speculative commodity, and I support smart growth that respects local communities, water limits, and environmental reality.
I’m committed to environmental stewardship and intergenerational responsibility—protecting national parks, expanding state parks, restoring the Great Salt Lake, improving air quality, and planning for a sustainable future that our kids can actually live in. I support clean, resilient energy, modern infrastructure, and planning that looks decades ahead, not just to the next election.
I believe labor dignity and economic fairness are central to democracy. If our economy depends on someone’s work, that work should provide stability, safety, and a path to a decent life. That means fair wages, predictable schedules, worker protections, the right to organize, and policies that address the real cost of living facing Utah families, seniors, and people on fixed incomes.
I take civil liberties seriously across the board. I support LGBTQ equality without compromise, religious freedom without religious imposition, constitutional policing with real accountability, strong voting rights, and a government that is transparent and restrained. Human dignity is not negotiable, and the state should never legislate fear or erase people’s existence.
As a veteran, I’m committed to dramatically expanding Utah’s support for veterans—giving the state VA real authority to advocate for Utah veterans, filling gaps left by the federal system, and building a humane, low-barrier, state-of-the-art veterans homeless shelter that focuses on dignity, stability, and permanent housing.
I also believe Utah should think boldly about the future. From investing in arts, culture, and education, to positioning Utah as a global leader in emerging industries—including space science and space commerce—I want Utah to be relevant, resilient, and essential in the 21st century and beyond.
This campaign is about stewardship over dominance, dignity over spectacle, and planning for a future that works for everyone. If that vision resonates with you, I hope you’ll join me.
